Arts For Healing is a place, a concept and a vision. Established in 2000 as a not-for-profit organization, Arts For Healing continues to provide much needed therapy in the form of creative arts to special needs children and adults.

Located at 24 Grove St. in New Canaan, Ct., we provide the opportunity for each child to fulfill their potential.

Arts For Healing is a place where families can come to get therapeutic services, information, resources, and much needed relaxation. Our concept is Integrated Music and Art Therapy. Combining auditory and visual stimuli in an interactive, fun and nurturing environment, helps promote language and speech, motor skills, socialization and personal development in children and adults. Our individual and group therapy programs use the power of the arts to communicate ideas and feelings. Music and art make up the universal language that is understood by all.

The vision of Arts For Healing is to create a model of a community based Creative Arts Therapy Center that can be replicated in other communities around the country. Families having children with special needs of any kind should have the support of their community. A creative arts therapy center would provide the place for ongoing support services for children and adults who can benefit from them, a support system for parents and siblings, and a way for the community to participate in shared activities.

Arts For Healing is entering a new period of growth. We are making an impact on the families we serve, and are helping more children through our work in the school system. Our program at Waveny Care Center continues to bring much joy to the lives of Alzheimer’s patients. As an organization offering therapy through the arts, it is crucial that we investigate our methodology with medical and scientific input. Beginning this fall, a research study will be conducted with Mt. Sinai Medical School at Arts For Healing. We plan to publish our findings, and communicate the importance of music and art in the fields of special education and therapeutic intervention.

Arts For Healing needs the support of those who understand that the growing population of special needs children require changes in our thinking about education and therapy. This organization needs to reach all individuals who can benefit from our services.

We must recognize that the reality of supporting a center with qualified staff requires funding, the most important of which is scholarship. Through scholarship funds, Arts For Healing can broaden our client base to include those unable to afford treatment. Opening our doors to more children and adults will make it possible to develop programs, continue the research study, and help more families. One child’s path to self-discovery enables the entire family to improve the quality of their life.

Thank you so much for your support, and helping Arts For Healing
expand our possibilities for the future.
