A Message From Our Chair
I hope everyone made it through the winter without too much damage and, for those skiers, with knees intact. The frequent school closings due to Sandy and snowstorms played havoc with all of our schedules, but also with the continuity of the therapy work we do with our clients. We are more than ready for the spring.
In our last newsletter we outlined the results of ourStrategic Plan. A key area of focus for us was to improve our communication and marketing efforts to reach more people in the special needs community. We have been doing so, with outstanding results. The number of clients we see for one-on-one therapy is up over 50% from last January to this January. Besides bringing in new clients, we have also expanded our services to include Dance/MovementTherapy, provided by the newest member of our family, Jenny Ellyson.
On the outreach front, we have 2 new agencies we are working with, Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families located in New York and GADC River House Senior Center in Greenwich. Programs with several other agencies serving our population are pending based on funding availability. This is in addition to our continuing work with the New Canaan Public Schools, Special Church, New Canaan YMCA and Waveny Care Center in New Canaan; Jumpstart and the Stillmeadow School in Stamford; St. Catherine’s Academy in Fairfield; and Norwalk Hospital and Winston Prep in Norwalk.
We have also reinvigorated our board to keep this momentum going, adding six new members. I would like to welcome Claude Bernstein, Adam Blumenthal, Nancy Heller, Cathleen Crowley-Piscitell, Emily Warren andSamantha Zaffiro, and thank them for bringing new energy and perspectives to our organization.
Finally, I want to thank each one of you for supporting Arts For Healing as clients, donors and advocates. We look forward to a successful year and to seeing more of you at Arts For Healing due to our expanded program offerings.
If you haven’t been by recently, please stop in. Wonderful things are happening here thanks to yourcontinued support.
Thank you,
Steven Phillips, Board Chair
